Global Perspectives in Health and Environment- Cuba

We can look at health on an individual level and a social level. (Micro and Macro)

On the 19th of February the communist dictator of the west, Castro, has stepped down- passed the torch to his brother. One important thing to remember that in Cuba “1.4 million people are basically held prisoner on that island. Freedom of speech, press, and assembly are severely restricted, and there are no free elections.”

What is interesting is Cuba’s public health and environmental works. Works meaning what they have done, what they have been able to accomplish.

Some of the health and environmental success in Cuba has been due to necessity. I think some of the impressive health stats could be in optimistic reporting to the World Health Organization (aka redefining infant mortality).

The documentary “SICKO” also highlighted Cuba’s Health System
